This winter recruitment period proves to be a time of feverish speculation and possible major moves. Several notable players are being linked with transfers away from their current teams. We examine some of the major names that are poised to be changing clubs this month.

Antoine Semenyo

Although Ghana's inability to reach the AFCON, this has kept the forward in contention, indications are an important move is imminent. This 25-year-old has a deal featuring a substantial buy-out clause applicable for a short period in early January. Latest developments suggest the Premier League champions have emerged as his services. Other suitors like Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly have moved on to other targets, potentially opening the door for teams like Manchester United or Liverpool to make a last-minute move.

Marc Guéhi

The English centre-back has continued to excel for Crystal Palace this season a summer move to Liverpool falling through. As his contract due to run out in the summer, January is the London club's final opportunity to obtain a fee for their skipper. Numerous top clubs, such as City and several European giants including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly hold an interest. However, a January departure remains unlikely, particularly given the manager's reliance on the defender.

B. Johnson

This Welsh forward has found starting minutes hard to come by at Spurs this campaign. Despite finishing as the club's leading goalscorer last season, he has started just a small number of Premier League matches. It is understood the North London club is open to a transfer for the right valuation, believed to be in the around £40 million. Bournemouth appear to be leading the chase, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also showing an interest.

R. Neves

This Portuguese midfielder might be set for a return to the English top flight after a spell in Saudi Arabia. Now just twenty-eight, while his contract ending in the summer, he represents a potential bargain. Clubs such as Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked with the player. Furthermore, there have been suggestions from Spanish media that he is willing to accept a reduced salary for a move to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

The veteran Germany shot-stopper finds himself as third-choice at Barça following the coach Hansi Flick. Having lost his place and had an operation, a winter departure seems highly probable. Aston Villa were once linked as a possible destination, but that move now appears unlikely. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly expressing interest in the keeper.

I. Toney

This prolific England centre-forward has continued scoring regularly in the Middle East. A return to the Premier League could boost his fading hopes of being in the England World Cup. Juventus are desperate to secure the youngster to a new long-term agreement but face a battle to keep one of Europe's most promising young talents.

Kees Smit

The much-admired Netherlands teenage midfielder has drawn comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. After starring at the U19 Euros, Smit has broken into the AZ first team. This teenager is heavily tipped to make a major move in January. Newcastle reportedly are leading the chase, but could face stiff rivalry from Real Madrid for a deal valued at approximately £22 million.
