The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at The Game Awards — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Each time a significant prize-giving event approaches, you'll find an outcry for introducing of new categories to recognize underappreciated efforts and fill the passions of fans dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. Equally deserving are board games, representing a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize because like all single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification supporting my request stands as crucial and important of all. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it remains highly personal, and typically generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why film award organizations avoid this approach. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise for the industry of video games, which are so diverse they hardly constitute one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these award types successfully include many game types, making space possible for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: building puzzles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. What category would fit them between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games released every year without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition completely in 2014
  • Another imaginative release was excluded in 2019
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Limited numbers of logic titles managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles stand as the most-played games in the world continuing this trend for many years.

The famous puzzle experience challenges popular creative games claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, while interacting with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers operate at the demanding boundary game development, creating some of most fundamental forms of the video game form. Similar to film action specialists, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay generations.
