US Military Targeted a 'Large Facility' in Venezuela, President Trump Stated Lacking Providing Details.

Ex-President Trump has claimed that US forces struck a "major plant" in Venezuela recently. Yet, the former president offered no details on the precise purpose or location of the target, and there has been no additional clarification from his team.

Vague Comments Offered In a Talk Interview

"US forces just knocked out – I don't know if you heard – they have a large facility, where the ships depart from. Two nights ago, we destroyed it. So we hit them decisively," Trump allegedly told Republican donor and supermarket owner John Catsimatidis in a recent interview.

Possible Significance of a Confirmed Attack

If a US military action were to be confirmed, it would represent the first attack on Venezuelan soil since the US Department of Defense initiated a buildup of US military presence in the region to halt narco-trafficking operations that the Trump administration alleges operate under the authority of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

The initial purpose of the military buildup has evolved into a blockade aimed at stopping the nation's crude oil shipments.

Online Footage and Administration Statements

Trump has for weeks indicated that American military units are prepared to escalate the operations by hitting targets inside Venezuela, a move that would in theory require congressional authorization.

Video footage posted on social media on 24 December purportedly showed an detonation reportedly from an industrial area in a Venezuelan state. Yet, the footage or the facility has not been confirmed by third parties.

An official from Trump's team allegedly told a news network that the former president was describing a drug facility in his comments.

Response and Current Military Situation

The Maduro government has remained silent on the event the former president described. Additionally, there have been no corroborating news from Venezuela concerning it.

The deployment of US military in the area – a posture some have called a sea blockade – represents the largest naval operation of his time in office.

Sources have avoided from calling the operation as a full blockade, but have acknowledged that approximately 15,000 service members are positioned across the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico, including a aircraft carrier group, advanced fighter jets, and law enforcement vessels to enforce existing sanctions.
