Wimbledon will follow the US and Aussie Opens in implementing replay systems.
Video review systems are set to arrive at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.
Competitors are granted the ability to challenge certain decisions from the chair umpire, echoing the practice already in use at each of the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.
The new system will be accessible on the main stadium and Court One throughout the Championships and on the other four featured courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This development follows just a season following the AELTC introduced ELC, which terminated the centuries-old role of line officials.
Reviewable Decisions
Competitors will not be permitted to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but are allowed to ask for the official to re-examine other situations, including:
- If a ball has bounced twice.
- If a ball made contact with an rival's racket or person during play.
- Possible hindrance at the conclusion of a point.
Importantly, there will be an unlimited number on the amount of reviews a competitor can request.
Case in Point
A recent case took place in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the video challenge against his opponent.
Draper admitted it was a tough situation for the umpire, but thought his rival had "played the rules quite well."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and determined the player was responsible for hindrance, granting the rally to his opponent.
Broader Adoption
Video reviews are not new for major tournaments. It has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have the system in place at all of its events.
Further Updates
Another innovation at The Championships 2025 involves the introduction of graphical cues on scoreboards to support the audio calls from the ELC system.
This addresses instances where fans have occasionally been unsure if a ball was out or in.
Finally, with precisely a century of days remaining until the start of the Championships, organizers have further revealed an increase in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
